CREATING A PATH TOWARDS JUSTICE AND SUSTAINABILITY
The five literacies are interconnected to one another and the most imperative skills we must possess to further explore the complexities behind our universe. Having all of these abilities, knowledge, and skills can make individuals become more aware of the daily events, informed of everything, engaged to societal activities and become a responsible citizen contributing to the equal and empowered future.
Multicultural and global literacy are closely related concepts that mainly tackles the appreciation and understanding of different cultures, as well as, the international issues. These two give importance in bridging the gap of discrimination promoting social equality and eliminating social prejudices for all people, regardless of their ethnicity, beliefs, cultures and religion. Embracing the uniqueness by respecting others own culture is crucial for maintaining peace and unity. Currently, students can now work together that highly have a big impact in the community through developing a global perspective in local, national and international problems.
Social literacy involves various aspect such as understanding the norms and social cues, and effectively interacting with people around us. Through this, we are able to become connected to someone positively leading to have a deeper understanding in social dynamics. The ability to communicate effectively in different social context encourages us to be an active member of a community working collaboratively creating social change.
Media literacy encompasses the ability to critically analyze the media or the information before absorbing it completely. Since our data today has been saturated, media literacy helps us decipher bias and propaganda and the effects of using media in the whole society whether it is positive or negative. Nowadays, people would question if such content is valid and true for fake news are everywhere. Thus, evaluating sources is important to test the credibility of the information to avoid misinformation and be informed by the right and accurate data.
Lastly, this literacy involves creation of media responsibly considering the personal and controversial information before sharing it online.
Ecoliteracy is a way of interpreting the interplay of all living organisms and the nature that supports life. Viewing the importance of the nature itself, we tend realize that we must preserve the diversity since we are connected with the natural system, if natural resources got destructed and destroyed we never survive for it provides our basic necessities. Empathy extends beyond humans to encompass plants and animals. By cultivating an emotional connection with the natural world, we can become responsible stewards of the environment, ensuring a more sustainable future for ourselves and generations to come.
A couple of days we are experiencing heavy rains and an extremely hot weather. This is what we call the climate change and to avoid landslide and flood, let us plant trees together. Every tree contributes to make our living healthy including the air and water, leading to a healthier ecosystem. Ecoliteracy is about putting a balance towards nature.
