ECOLITERACY: BUILDING A SUSTAINABLE FUTURE THROUGH HARMONY WITH NATURE

Nature is the foundation of our existence, providing us with the essential resources we need to thrive: fresh air, clean water, food, medicine, and countless other materials that sustain life. Protecting nature is not just a choice, but a necessity for building a sustainable future. By working together to conserve our natural world and restore damaged habitats, we can ensure a healthy and prosperous planet for generations to come.

Some universities have developed models for environmental literacy, social responsibility, and sustainability that promote flexibility while making learning engaging and enjoyable for all learners across various disciplines. These models aim to foster a significant contribution to society (Rowe, 2002). These models lead to three positive effects:

1. Great care in the society's future

2. Develop Strong belief to achieve impactful change

3. Encourage active participation upon solving problems and issues in the environment and society

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration formulated 10 simple things to do to help protect the planet (NOAA, 2024).

REDUCE, REUSE, AND RECYCLE. These are important practices for managing waste properly for environmental protection.

VOLUNTEER. Participate in any activities inside the community such as clean-up drive.

EDUCATE. Help yourself and others to be aware as well as understand the significance of the natural resources.

CONSERVE WATER. Collect rainwater and reduce water consumption.

CHOOSE SUSTAINABLE. Be smart and wise in making choices.

SHOP WISELY. Buy only the necessary items and avoid buying unimportant product.

USE LONG-LASTING LIGHT BULBS. Use light bulbs that are energy efficient. Whenever you are not using it or you are leaving the room, make sure to switch it off.

PLANT A TREE. Trees give us clean air to breathe and food to eat. They also helps fight the climate change.

DON'T THROW CHEMICALS INTO OUR WATERWAYS. Select only the non-toxic chemicals.

BIKE MORE. Do not always use cars or any other vehicle that causes pollution.
